Tonight it is Poor Man's Ploughman's, which consists of cheese and pickled onions, washed down with a nice cup of Earl Grey. If I had the salad and the crusty bread it would have been a Ploughman's Lunch, but I read somewhere that it is good to eat fatty food like cheese with pickled veg, as it aids digestion or something, so at least I have the important elements there.

Any others you can think of?

It's the perfect time of year for a poor man's fruit salad, which involves going for a walk and scoffing anything edible you can find growing along the way.

Ah, yes, of course. Good one. I often eat Poor Man's Chow Mein, which is just the noodles (instant) without anything added, except the little sachet of MSG.

Beans on toast. But actually that really is a meal fit to set before a King.

Absolutely, Lazy. I suppose the Poor Man's version would be without the grated cheese sprinked on top?

Sometimes I do Italian beans on toast. A smear of pesto on the toast and parmesan on top of the beans. Molto cosmopolitan.

many years ago I used to enjoy poor man's roast pork, pork scratchings dipped in a jar of apple sauce.

'The Beggar's Banquet'

Steamed rice accompanied by vegetables at hand...a nice cheese sauce tops it off. Bon Apetit!
Yeehaw and Yahabibby...

I had the worst meal ever the other night. Oven chips and falafels. Dryer than a camel's hoof.

I do remember fondly the days of picking wild fruit from hedgerows and other people's orchards though.

Hold on a minute...I thought you hated fruit? Or do you only eat it if it's been stolen from some hard working, tax paying member of the public?
