I've just completed my 4th day of a vegan diet in preparation for the retreat I go on tomorrow for 3/4 days. Fasting all tomorrow too for it! The after, back the the vegan diet for another 3 days. Erk!

My God, gimme meat! And cheese! People eat like this out of choice?!

...only a week to go!
Life is a beautiful struggle

I'm vegetarian but I cannot live without cheese. And vegan cheese is bloody vile.

Why do you need to go vegan for this retreat?

Me - eventually. I've been a veggie for nine years now and have been thinking about taking the next step for a while. I just know I'll find it tricky, since I'm quite fussy as it is, and tend to rely on cheese a bit too much. But I had a good old chat with Solent1 about it at the picnic which was quite helpful.

Good luck with the retreat.
We're flat broke, but hey, we do it in style

I have been vegetarian all my life, that’s over 60 years now, and can say that provided one is aware of dietary and nutrition needs (and yes, have lots of that loverly cheese and omelets) one can easily stay healthy. However a vegan diet is another matter entirely, getting a balanced diet and enough nutrition is VERY difficult and such a diet should not be embarked upon without much research, it is not for the faint hearted or for those on a “fad” diet.
My aunt produce a recipe book with a number of vegan recipes and dietary advice during the war years when meat, eggs and cheese was in short supply for all urban British folks.

For those that are interested there are a few veggie recipes at users.auracom.com/drawls/VegRecipies/VegIndex.htm including a great vegie burger and a campfire stew recipe for over the BBQ.
Idleness is nothing unless well carried out!

If it's the retreat I think it is, hving no trace of cheese of meat in your tummy will make the process a lot more pleasant.
Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending

Anyone who wants to be a vegan or is trying to stay a vegan should avoid V Bites in Hove which is Heather Mills-MaCartney's restaurant. It's mostly soya meat substitute used in dishes that imitate meat based meals.

I was vegan for around 18 months years ago, then one day I was walking past Pizza Hut with my friend who'd turned vegan with me, the smell hit us, we looked at each other, went in and devoured an acre of pizza with triple cheese topping.

I could never be vegan. Vegetarian maybe, if I would really want to. But I prefer to eat a moderate amount of meat.

No-oooo-OOOoo...

Not me, I wouldn't want those pointy ears.

Oh well, sorry about that. Anyone for a nice prawn curry?

PS- Chinny, you would have to avoid real ale as much of it contains fining gel, which is made from fishes' gall bladders. It's what makes the beer go clear.
